16.08.- 02.09.2024,- ☀️ ROLLINGEXILE – Live in Europe “Rolling Roads Tour 2024”.

It’s a beautiful and sunny August morning, only 10:30A.M. and already in the mid 20s. I am sitting outside a café overlooking Swansea Harbour, a full cup of coffee in front of me and my laptop at the ready. The view is simply breath-taking, and the atmosphere is perfect. All this in preparation for my review of the new ROLLINGEXILE album ‘Weather Change’.

After the release of 2019’s popular ‘Shadow Hero’, ROLLINGEXILE are back with a new album and, in my opinion, a much heavier and even more grown-up record with their new release ‘Weather Change’.

The album opens with the boogie inspired ‘Shot Down’, very reminiscent of Quo at their best. I just love how Tommy Brundage’s harmonica adds the cherry to the track at just the right moment. ‘Rock And Roll Girl’ hits a more traditional ROLLINGEXILE note. Simple, yet edgy verses leading to a lovely chorus and a superb guitar solo by Frederico Bianco.

The stunningly dreamy ‘Renegade’ is next and WOW!! What a beautiful track it is. Renegade makes me want to jump onto one of those boats in front of me and drift along with my fingers dipping into the cooling water. It is such a calming number with some beautiful acoustic guitar playing.

I love the drums on the next track ‘Want’. (Rory Smith doing a stellar job on drums and percussion throughout the album). ‘Want’ reminds me a bit of early U2. Leonardo Landini’s bass work steadily drives the song along. One of the many things that I love about ROLLINGEXILE is their use of backing and harmony vocals, which are very evident towards the end of this one.

‘Can’t Speak French’ is next, a real foot tapper that will strongly appeal to all The Kinks fans out there. The chorus will stay with you forever.

Back to Charlie Hallinan’s rockier side next with ‘Dirty Water’. 5 minutes of solid, in-your-face rock n roll that will certainly get your head shaking. Totally classic and totally nailing it. I’d love to see this one done live; it will surely get the crowd moving.

Rory Smith’s drum intro for title track ‘Weather Change’ gives me goosebumps. ‘Weather Change’ is such a brilliant track, very anthemic and totally awesome. Another chorus that will get stuck in your head.

We get back to Charlie at his emotional best on ‘Tear Down Angel’. Another beautiful song about loss, chances never taken and hope. The guitar solo again is just perfect and adds so much to the atmosphere of the track. I love the positiveness at the end where Charlie almost pleads “Maybe we can survive?”.

Just when you feel it couldn’t get any better, they throw in the gem that is ‘Long Way To Go’. Not one to hide my emotions, I literally had tears in my eyes listening to this one. What a seriously good tune this is. I am in love with it. I ended up playing it 4 times in a row, savouring every second of it. You quite simply have got to hear it

Album closer ‘Waiting For Another Day’ perfectly closes the album with its mid-tempo rock anthem feel and sing-along chorus. The band highlights just how it should be done.

‘Weather Change’ is an honest, heart on the sleeve album that will draw you in more on each listen. The tracks are well written and played to perfection. With excellent production work from Alessio Garavello, it is an album that you will play loudly and find yourself singing along to almost instantly. The mix of ballad, rock and pop blend together seamlessly. The album just feels so ‘right’. It’s an easy to listen to, brilliant piece of work that I highly recommend.
